A Floating Production Storage and Offloading unit is a floating vessel that processes and stores oil near offshore oil fields until it’s ready to be transferred to a tanker. FPSOs are ideal for regions lacking pipeline infrastructure or where pipeline construction is too costly.
They offer mobility, allowing relocation once an oil field is exhausted. The equivalent unit for natural gas is called Floating Liquefied Natural Gas (FLNG).
